How to post a picture

Post by Moonrat on Fri Dec 19, 2008 1:14 pm

Posting your images

The process involved in posting a photograph, picture or image at Hot Tin Roof is not as simple as on some other boards. You CANNOT upload an image file directly from your computer to a post here. You first have to upload it to an image hosting site and then link to the image using the tools provided to make the post from here.

That all sounds complicated doesn't it? -- but it isn't -- It's quite easy so don't panic.

Once you have done it a couple of times, you will discover how simple it really is. To post your pictures here, follow these few steps ...

Step 1 ... You have to upload an image to an image hosting website (The default one here is servimg.com). To create a new one here, click the icon 'Host an image' from the post box toolbar and follow the instructions.

Step 2 ... Now that you have your image account, you can use it to post pictures on this forum. Click the 'Host an image' button again and log in. From the 'Upload your image' box and with the 'file' option selected, click 'browse' find your picture file and click 'host'. Your image is now ready to download.

You can keep uploading as many pictures as you like now (or until you hit the size limit), just log in (or keep going) to your servimg.com account and you can manage everything from there. Fill it up or empty it out. Whatever. It's yours.

Step 3 ... From your image account **I keep mine open in a separate browser tab** Click the 'links' option for the picture you want, select and copy the Direct Links Image url (It's the bottom of the four options), come back to Hot Tin Roof, click the 'Image' icon from the post box toolbar and paste the copied url into the box. Click OK.

That's it. Your image should be ready to post. You can preview or just send it. Write a few words about it if you want to, there are all types of fonts, sizes, colours etc ... at your disposal.

Posting foreign images

To Post an image from another source is even easier. Because you don't have to upload it, you just copy the url of the image you want from your browser address bar (Google Images, for example), click the 'image' icon from the post box toolbar here at Hot Tin Roof, paste it into the box and click OK.

That is the most simple way of posting pictures at Hot Tin Roof. I know it's a pain in the arse, but when you get used to it, it is easy. There are undoubtably other ways of posting pictures using the bbcode tags and various hyperlinks, you will just have to experiment with them to find out how they work, but the method described above is the most efficient way to achieve success.

The Gallery

Additionally there is a member picture gallery activated. You can load pictures up into that and link them into a forum from there. If your picture won't load up it will probably be too big. Resize it and try again. The maximum pixel and file size limits are specified on the gallery upload page. All other board members will be able to access your gallery.

Thankyou for reading ... now go post a picture
